Meters & Meter Readings

In ThingTech, the Utilization of an Asset is measured by a Meter. A Meter also includes a related record called a Meter Readings. A Meter Reading is the detailed record of each time the Meter is updated. In a vehicle example, think of the Meter as the current Odometer value and the Meter Readings as snapshots in time of the Odometer value.

Meter Types

A Meter can be one of several different types:

  • Odometer: Tracks the miles of asset utilization.
  • Hours: Tracks the hours of asset utilization.

Fields

Description

Meter Type

The meter data you wish to track.

Units

Miles for odometer meters, hours for hours meters

Meter Reading Override

This field is used to adjust meters after creation. The value entered into this field will override the value of the Meter.

Avg. Daily Reading

Read Only field that analyzed historic asset utilization to determine the average daily amount. When deployed with ThingTech EAM, this field is used by the Capital Planning, Maint. Schedule, Warranty, and other components to predict utilization. Note - This field will display an ‘error’ value until multiple Meter Reading entries have been accumulated. In addition, to further refine the Avg. Daily Reading value, users may manually update Meter Reading entries by clicking ‘Exempt from Forecast’ field on Meter Reading.

Meter Readings

After the Meter is set up as detailed above, Meter Readings will track the utilization of the Asset over time and update the Meter with the latest value. If you're using ThingTech Real-Time, a new Meter Reading will be automatically entered each day that the Asset was in use. If you're not using GPS Tracking devices, users will periodically update the Meter by entering a new Meter Reading.

Overriding the Meter Value

The 'Meter Reading Override' provides an easy way to set the absolute value of a Meter. For example, if an Asset has 150,000 miles on it, a user may enter 150,000 into the 'Meter Reading Override' field to override the existing Meter value to 150,000. This function is useful for:

  • Initial Application Set Up to Seed Meter Value
  • Correcting Meter Reading Entry Errors
  • Manual Entry of Meter Values in Absolute Value Format
