Visualization Overview
Users monitor and Things and their streaming, RealTime data by accessing the Visualization console. To understand the console, you must understand its design principles:
● All data is loaded into Visualization via a Thing Layer.
● To quickly search for a Thing, a user may use the ‘Quick Search’ function on the left side of the Console.
● Thing Layers are user-definable - allowing users to choose data filtering and display options for unique visualizations.
● After loading a Thing Layer, users can manipulate the dataset using the three (3) main views: Map View, Grid View, and Graph View.
● A user can load multiple Thing Layers simultaneously for richer mapping visualizations.
● The Default View for Visualization is ¾ Map View and ¼ Grid View. However, the Grid View can be expanded for a Full Grid View or collapsed for a Full Map View. The Grid View can be accessed by selecting a Thing and selecting the Graph button.
● When the ‘Track’ Action has selected the console allows the user to manipulate time in order to visualize historical data for all Things.
● All Thing mapping icons can be clicked for a mapping Info Window.
● All Thing Names are hyperlinked so the user may drill into the Detail Record of the Thing for deeper analysis.
● The Grid View can be manipulated after the Thing Layer has been loaded, allowing the user to reorder columns, adjust column widths, group, sort, and filter. Any changes made by Admins to the Grid after the Thing Layer has been loaded are ‘sticky’ and will save for all users in future sessions.
● Actions can be taken directly from the Visualization console from either the Map View or Grid View. More on Actions in a bit...
● Access and Permissions to Thing Layers can be managed via Setup - > Filters for additional control of which users can access Thing data.
Weather
By selecting the cloud icon located at the bottom left of the map view, you will enable weather from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
This feature allows the user to view any inclement weather near or surrounding their Things (Assets, Vehicles, etc.)
Map Functions
Satellite View
By selecting ‘Satellite’ from the top left of the map view you will enable a satellite view of the map which integrates directly from Google Maps.
Street View
By Dragging the yellow pegman to the desired location you can obtain a street view of the surrounding area.
Address Search
By clicking on the blue magnifying glass at the top right of the map view, you can search an address location by typing in the desired address.
A pin will be placed on the location that was searched.
Actions
Standard Actions
ThingTech provides a set of Standard Actions that users may initiate to further research, diagnose, and remediate exceptional situations. Your ThingTech deployment may also include a set of Custom Actions configured specifically for your business and workflows. See Custom Actions or talk to your Administrator for more details.
Standard Actions may be initiated from the Visualization console - more specifically from the left Action Bar in the Data Grid or from the Info Window popup on the Map View.
Collapse – Displays only Map View
Split Screen – Splits Screen to view Map View and Grid View as seen in screen shot
Wide – Displays only Grid View
Show Grid – When in “Show Chart” select “Show Grid” to return to Grid View
Show Chart –
Zoom to Extents - To Zoom to a Thing or Things, select one or many Things in the Grid View and press ‘Zoom to Extents’. The Map will adjust to the extents of all selected Things.
Show Perimeter - A Perimeter is a Geofence that is based on the current location of a Thing - even if it is mobile. To show perimeters on the map, select the ‘Show Perimeter’ button. Note: Not all Things have been configured with Perimeters. Discuss with your Administrator or contact ThingTech Support.
Tracking – When monitoring Time-Series data - either live or historically - it is often helpful to view it over various time ranges as well as in several contexts. To do so, users will need to select a Thing or Things and select the ‘Track’ action, which will put the ThingTech application into ‘Tracking Mode’.
Tracking Mode provides the following features:
Removal of other Things from the map and automatically ‘Zoom to Extents’ of the Thing(s) being Tracked
Historical data set will be activated for the lesser of 1.) The duration of your active browser session or 2.) Fifteen (15) minutes.
Render Breadcrumb, Route lines, and Events on Map based on Thing Layer settings. Note: Settings are set by default in the Thing Layer manager but can be updated by any user for that session only by accessing the layer through ‘Active Layers’.
Activation of Time Selector in bottom right corner of screen for additional manipulation of Timeframe either via Relative and Absolute values.
Activation of Timeline at bottom of screen which can also be used to manipulate the Timeframe of the data set. Users can
Ability to animate the data set on the Map display by selecting the ‘Play’ button
Export – Any data contained in the data grid can be exported to an excel file by using the Export function on the Action Bar.
Sync Grid w/ Map - Some users may find it helpful to sync grid searching with the Map results. To do so, users can turn on ‘Sync Grid to Map’ mode whereby any searching within the Grid will auto-adjust and zoom the map to the extents of the records in the grid. Note: This Action does not require the selection of Things in the data grid.
